About HSS Spiral Fluted Tap

These taps, as the name implies, are made with spiral flutes instead of straight flutes. This spiral fluting feature aids in drawing chips out of a hole, or serves to bridge a gap inside the hole such as a keyway or cross-hole. Commonly available in slow spiral (25-30 helix angle) or fast spiral (45-60).

Taps are available in a wide range of sizes with us (inch and metric) in both straight and taper pipe threads.

Reliable Threading for Blind Hole Applications

Designed explicitly for threading blind holes, the HSS Spiral Fluted Tap incorporates a helix angle between 15 and 40, ensuring optimal chip removal. This feature reduces the risk of clogging and breakage during operations, resulting in consistently clean threads in alloyed or non-alloyed materials. Whether used in repair workshops or large-scale manufacturing, its spiral flute geometry guarantees performance and accuracy.

Versatility Meets International Standards

These taps offer flexibility across various threading standards, including DIN 371, DIN 376, ISO, and JIS, accommodating the diverse needs in industrial environments. The selection of 2, 3, or 4 flutes depending on tap size allows users to match the tool to the specific threading task. Suitable for both hand and machine tapping, the taps ensure compatibility with an array of drilling and tapping machines.

Quality and Precision in Every Thread

HSS Spiral Fluted Taps are engineered to deliver a hard, precise cutting edge with a hardness of HRC 58-62. High cutting accuracy and a standard tolerance class of 6H make them the preferred choice for demanding metalworking applications. Their uncoated, bright finish allows for smooth cutting and ease of monitoring tool wear, contributing to long-lasting and reliable threading performance.

FAQs of HSS Spiral Fluted Tap:

Q: How does a spiral fluted tap improve threading in blind holes?

A: A spiral fluted tap is specially engineered with helical grooves that efficiently remove chips from blind holes, preventing clogging and facilitating smooth cutting. This design minimizes tool breakage and ensures precise, clean threads even in deeper holes.

Q: What types of materials can the HSS Spiral Fluted Tap be used on?

A: This tap is ideal for threading both alloyed and non-alloyed materials, making it suitable for a wide range of metals encountered in industrial manufacturing, metalworking, and repair workshops.

Q: When should I choose a 2, 3, or 4 flute spiral tap?

A: The number of flutes corresponds to the size of the tap and the specific application. Smaller taps typically have 2 flutes for better chip evacuation in tight spaces, while larger taps may have 3 or 4 flutes to provide added strength and increased cutting edges.

Q: Where can I use the HSS Spiral Fluted Tap?

A: These taps are suitable for use in industrial manufacturing plants, metalworking facilities, automobile repair workshops, and even in smaller repair shops, providing versatility across various threading operations in India and internationally.

Q: What is the recommended process for using this tap?

A: For optimal performance, the HSS Spiral Fluted Tap can be operated manually or with a compatible tapping machine. Maintain a cutting speed of 20-35 m/min depending on the material, and use appropriate lubrication to further enhance tap life and threading precision.

Q: How does the Bright (uncoated) surface treatment benefit users?

A: A bright, uncoated finish provides a smooth cutting surface that reduces friction and makes it easier to monitor wear on the tap. It is ideal for general-purpose threading in a variety of metal materials.

Q: What are the main benefits of choosing this tap for my operations?

A: The tap offers high precision, efficient chip removal, low cutting force, and compliance with international standards. Its spiral design is particularly advantageous for blind holes, ensuring reliable threading and extended tool longevity.
