About STI Tap - Threading HSS

S.T.I. (Screw Thread Insert) Taps are special taps for helical coil wire screw thread inserts, which provide positive means for protecting and strengthening tapped threads in any material.

These STI taps are correctly sized to produce an internal thread that accommodates a helical coil wire screw thread insert. The insert, in turn, will accept a screw thread of the nominal size and pitch at final assembly. Screw thread inserts provide stronger tapped threads (stronger assemblies) due to a more balanced distribution of loads throughout the length of thread engagement.

Taps are available in a wide range of sizes with us (inch and metric) in both straight and taper pipe threads.

Precise Threading for Professional Applications

The STI Tap is engineered for exceptional accuracy when preparing tapped holes for thread inserts. Its high precision threading minimizes the risk of thread misalignment, making it ideal for industries demanding strict tolerances and reliability. The ground and polished surface ensures smooth cutting and extended tool life.

Versatile and Durable Performance

Crafted from high-quality HSS, the STI Tap excels across a broad range of applications, including professional workshops, distributors, and industry suppliers. Its robust design accommodates hand or machine operations and effectively handles aluminum, steel, and cast iron, delivering consistent results with low to medium cutting force.

FAQs of STI Tap - Threading HSS:

Q: How do I use the STI Tap for threading holes for screw thread inserts?

A: To use the STI Tap, first create a properly sized drilled hole according to your insert requirements. Insert the tap into the hole and apply steady pressure, turning it by hand or with a tapping machine in the right-hand direction. This creates precise internal threads suitable for screw thread inserts.

Q: What materials can the STI Tap thread, and what is the recommended cutting speed?

A: This tap is suitable for threading aluminum, steel, and cast iron. For best performance and to maintain tool longevity, a cutting speed of 2535 m/min is recommended when operating the tap.

Q: When should I choose an STI Tap over a regular tap?

A: Use an STI Tap specifically when preparing holes for screw thread inserts. It is designed to create the slightly oversized, high-precision threads that ensure proper fit and performance of inserts, which a standard tap cannot achieve.

Q: Where is the STI Tap most commonly used?

A: The STI Tap is widely used in engineering workshops, manufacturing facilities, repair centers, and industries where thread repair or reinforcement using inserts is required. It is also favored by distributors, exporters, and wholesalers in professional applications.

Q: What is the process to select the correct STI Tap size?

A: Select the tap diameter (from M2 to M18, or custom sizes) based on your specific thread insert requirements. Match the thread pitch and tooling to the insert specification to ensure compatibility and optimum thread integrity.

Q: What are the main benefits of using this STI Tap?

A: Benefits include high durability due to HSS construction, reliable rust resistance, consistent thread precision, versatility across multiple materials, and usability with both hand tools and drilling machines. These features result in professional-quality thread preparation and long tool life.
